HISTORY OF REIKI

   DR. Mikao Usui was born in 1864 in Japan and raised by Christian Missionaries.                                                  

He was brought up as a Christian, reading the Bible and teachings of Jesus. He later became a professor of Theology and eventually appointed the Head Minister of a Christian Boy’s School. Dr Usui needed to find greater knowledge of the healing miracles, which Jesus carried out. So he left the school and started his search, which took him to America, where he spent several years studying the Christian scriptures and the teachings of Buddha.

Whilst Dr Usui was engrossed with all the teachings, he met a Zen Buddhist Abbot, who had a profound effect on him and his Spiritual Journey. He went to live with him at his monastery for several years, during which time he expanded his own consciousness and knew that to find the secrets to healing, were within him. Eventually, he decided he had studied enough and that the answers he needed were within reach.

He travelled to a sacred Buddhist mountain retreat near Kyoto that had an especially pure level of Life Force Energy. There he fasted for 21 days. Nearby was a stream and he knew that drinking water would give him more clarity and power to meditate. He had 21 stones, which he threw one a day into the stream after his meditation. His meditations were becoming more and more meaningful and his concentration very strong and stable.

His internal energies so clear, that he was easily able to continually manifest/experience the purity of his own inner light and subtle mind. When this very high level of consciousness is completely purified, it becomes the omniscient mind of Buddha. Or perhaps from another perspective, creates a complete union with god or Christ’s consciousness.

On the last day, the 21^st he knew that his life would be over, he would find the gift of healing, he was at the point of no return. Now, he would not go back to the monastery without the answer to his life long quest.

As he was meditating in the darkness, he saw a light, a very bright light on the horizon. It travelled at tremendous speed. He realised that if he didn’t move it would hit him. He was so determined to relax, open and allow the experience to happen, wherever it might lead.

He centred himself and waited, knowing that this would be an end and a beginning. The light struck his forehead and he lost consciousness.

Eventually he awoke and remembered everything. He was aware of the beautiful colours and sensations followed by a great light filling the whole space-the nature of pure wisdom, compassion and bliss. Within this light there were bubbles and within each bubble there was a symbol. These were the Sanskrit symbols he found in the Buddhist text. His body, speech and mind were fully empowered with reiki energy and the symbols he received were given with the full knowledge and understanding of each one.

 In his rush to go back down the mountain, Dr Usui stubbed his toe on a rock making it bleed and very painful. He quietly sat down and placed his hands around his toes for a few moments and immediately the pain stopped, the bleeding stopped. He had been healed. This was the first reiki Miracle
